This study investigated to which extend the secondary school principles of Iran made use of computers. The research also explored the relationship that exist between several variables that are related to ICT application. This study has also made great contribution to the increasing body of knowledge to the secondary school principals and in the ICT industry, particularly in Tehran. It has also added to diffusion of invention and diffusion research in general especially in less developed countries.

The research findings revealed that secondary school principles used very few sessions each week working on computers. It appears as if secondary school principles need to understand the knowledge of ICT’s role in their work life and acquire the appropriate skills to apply this knowledge (Schiller, 2003). There is need to prepare secondary school principals to embrace technology and integrate this element in their schools. Casmar (2001) argues that there is need to address the themes of training, support, change in administrative strategies, improvement in the infrastructure of the school, attitude towards the use of computers, management of workload in order to increase the use of computer technology for administrative and instructional purposes by principles. Therefore, there is need for principals to be given adequate support and training in using these computer related technologies.

Effective and efficient utilization of technology relies on the availability of software and hardware Mumtaz (2000). The findings of this research indicated that there is need to have a high level of access to computers to create a great impact of using computers. Technology should be highly visible to be applied seamlessly whether in the classroom, principal’s office, or any other locality that requires access to productivity tools and information. The school administration should also provide funds for software and hardware.

Furthermore, the findings from this research revealed that secondary school principals hold positive attitudes towards ICT in education. They possess more constructive attitudes than both behavioral and cognitive attitudes. Therefore, policy makers should enhance the attitude and background knowledge of principles towards ICT. In addition, the principals should be given exposure towards different ICT tools to help them improve their behavioral attitudes. To achieve this objective, there is need to encourage principals to use the internet, educational software, and computers in their instructional and administrative tasks. In this manner, principals will recognize the potential that technology has and appreciate how computers can create a positive effect on their productivity as instructional leaders and managers.
